Update for 2009

I can't believe it's been almost a year since I've posted. Very, very sad! I looked back over my reading log for 2008 and saw that I only read 29 books. What a shame. Then I realized the reason why- I now have two beagles at home, one just turned two and the other is 9 months. I'll use them as my excuse for why I did not read much last year!

I have been much better this year though. I've read 17 books so far and have enjoyed all of them. In June I read six books, which is a record in one month for me. I'm still working through my genre challenge. Who knew it would take so long, though I can't say I have been overly committed to doing it. Looking back over my 2008 list, it looks like I knocked off two.

Gentle Reads- Evening Class by Maeve Binchy
Fantasy- Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

So, for 2009 that means I still have to do the following:

Western
Adventure
Inspirational
Thriller
Suspense- I Heard That Song Before by Mary Higgins Clark
Literary Fiction

I am still wading my way through the Newbery and Caldecott winners. While I am manning the Summer Reading Program table in the Youth Services area, I have been trying to read a couple of Caldecotts inbetween handing out prizes.

I had a busy June as I went to the Historical Novel Society conference in Schaumburg, Illinois. It was wonderful, and I am so happy that I went. I picked up lots of writing tips and met most of my favorite authors. Next week I'm off to Chicago for the Annual American Library Association meeting. I'm looking forward to that as well.
